My Role: Bottlenose dolphin
My Claim: More dolphins have died this year than last year because of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Evidence: The bodies of 74 bottlenose dolphins have been recovered since the Deepwater Horizon spill began. That is more than the usual number of dolphin deaths. Since dolphins normally have a life span of 45 years and only have one calf per birth, this may have an impact on the population of dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico in years to come. Dolphins are especially at risk from the oil spill due to the fact that they must come to the surface to breathe and are prone to inhaling and ingesting oil floating on the surface.

ReplyDeleteMy claim:my buisness has run out because of the gulf oil spill.
Evidence:i get less money amd dont have any thing for myself because the oil has ruined my equipment and fish.People dont want to eat fish thats pure oil so i have to wait for months until the oil has subsided in the gulf. But even if my buisness does remain my restraunts that buy fish from me are probally getting it from somwhere else so that puts me out of buisness. Julian
My role:Fisherman
ReplyDeleteMy claim:Im goin out of buisness because of the gulf oil spill.

ReplyDeleteMy Role is:Restaurant Owner
ReplyDeleteMy Claim:I have less and less people visit my restaurant every day because their scared oil well be in their food. Also i but from local resalers of seafood and the price has risin more than double.
Evidence: If i were to ask for at least 20 boxes of shrimp or oysters they'll send me 4 or 5, its getting ridicules. Shrimp has gone up 75 cents to $1.50, depending on the carrier and ive had to fire over 7 of my employes. We get lucky if we get more than $30 a day!
My role: Deep Sea Diver
ReplyDeleteMy Claim: The oil spill is killing pelicans and birds
Evidence: Im finding dead pelicans and birds all over. my estimate is about 40-50 birds found dead. Or either they are just siting there bathing in black thick sticky oil. Close by restaurants are running out of oysters to sell and for people to eat. Without oysters and them being out of stock what are the owners of restaurants going to do?
My Role: Hotel Owner
ReplyDeleteMy Claim: My Restaurant Buisness is not doing so good because of the oil spill.
Evidence: I have A 5 Star Seafood Restaurant. How Am I Suppose Have SEAFOOD with this oil affecting my food?
To get shrimp for my restaurant, its costing $1.50 a pound, thats way to much.
This has been an almost 60-day spill & i can;t have anymore "All You Can Eat Shrimp".
Its Not Just Shrimp its all my seafood. My fishermen are giving up on getting anymore seafood. And also im having to give refund back to hotel livers for this mess ! Im exhausted & stressed out ! I have questions & I need answers !

My Role:Sea Turtle
ReplyDeleteClaim: We are dying alot.New eggs are not being hatched and humans are sitting back and watching.
Evidence:Us Sea Turtles are trying to keep our selves alive. We cant do as much as a human can.We are struggling to keep ourselves alive. Our baby eggs are trying to be hatched but they cant be because they are being killed by the oil in the egg. While they do that what are we doing sitting back and watching.

ReplyDeletemy claim: I am going out business because no one wants to stay on the beach because of the oil spill.
Evidence: I used to have more than 100 people staying at my hotel a week now I have under 20 every day.Another thing is in my hotel there is a seafood restaurant in my hotel and now because of the oil spill no one ever comes to my restaurant because they think that my seafood has been contaminated with oil.
Carter
from connor bayliss, sea turtle: i think that of all people affected by the BP oil spill, we sea turtles deserve the most compensation. more than 550 of us die every 20 days as a result of toxification, burning alive, excessive drowning and starvation. so have a heart, BP, and clean up your mess!
ReplyDeleteMy role:Wildlife
ReplyDeleteMy Claim:More and more of my family and friends that are Pelicans are dieing because of the oil spill.
Evidence:57 pelicans that were covered in oil have been found dead. 156 pelicans have been found alive that the wildlife rescue team have found.Only brown with white feather pelicans go into the ocean to get fish for food.
*Siena*
my role is: Restaurant Owner and my claim is that because BP is contaminating the seafood people won't eat it and that drives away customers and i will have to close my restaurant.
ReplyDeleteMy role:Plankton
ReplyDeleteMy claim:BP needs to clean up faster because so many plankton are being killed
Evidence:Phytoplankton need sunlight to live, they are dying because the oil is blocking the sun.It is estimated that about 28,958 square miles of oil is floating on top of the gulf. Which means those square miles of plankton are dead. This maters to all the sea creatures because plankton are at the bottom of the food chain.
my role:shrimper
ReplyDeletemy claim: people are having a hard time finding shrimp
evidence:th pric of shrimp has went up more than 40%.
My role is deep sea diver.
ReplyDeleteEvidence:I have to take pictures of brown pelicans.since april over 100 pelicans have died over the spill. All of are jobs are in danger as well.
(WHY BP WHY?)
My role is:Brown pelican
ReplyDeleteMy claim:Many pelicans are dying more than usual because of the gulf oil spill.
Evidence:The death toll on brown pelicans has more than doubled. There are now only 40,000 or less pelicans. There used to be more than that. But the number has decreased so much you can see how bad this oil spill is for them.Especially since the brown pelicans just got off the eendangered species list.

My role:Multi-million dollar Restaurant owner
ReplyDeleteMy Claim:My Business is loosing money and regular customers
Evidence: My evidence to this claim is my business was up and running well. I had a lot of regular customeers and even new customers that have heard about me.Lately i had been going out of business since the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. It has made my Oyster game horrible thats my main dish, and if people do buy think about buying them them have second thoughts because of the oil. And because of that i am running out of money to buy oysters to get people to come in and buy them.Other businesses have been laying off their employees, I have tried not to lead towards that path but this oil spill is leading me down that path. So that is what I have to say about this disaster.

My role is: Fisherman. My claim:BP's oil spill has made my job even harder. Evidence:since 80% of the oil is still in the gulf, that oil is getting on my fish. And people won't buy my fish because they are worried that oil is on my fish.So now I have to work my hardest to find the cleanest catch I can find in the gulf and get payed minimum price from only a few customers who may trust that my fish are oil-free. And really, I only get 10-15% of usual sales. Hunter
